Happy new year!

Happy new year to all my friends and fans! The 2017 is the year of the rooster in the chinese astrological calendar. In my picture a #wagashi (a soft sweet rice cake for the #teaceremony,#chanoyu) shaped like an egg or a snow ball with the face of a rooster on it. I used a laquered plate with red finishing and gold decorations. Photo © Flavio Gallozzi - All rights reserved.

Yellow on white

I love yellow tulips, even when the leaves turns yellow, the flowers aren't so fresh, but they are real flowers and this is nature of things to decay and eventually die. This is a studio picture but I didn't use studio lighting, I used two small portable flash, the main side light is bounced in an umbrella, and the second is directly aimed at the back-drop standing behind the vase.

Yellow on black

For this picture I used small USB led lights, to have many spot lights effect, adjusted the white balance, lens Micro 105 mm. at f 2.8.

Nadeshiko, the book!

Today arrived my book Nadeshiko, I uploaded the files on Monday and I was very surprised to receive it so fast (Thursday morning). The printer is SAAL digital from Germany. They have web site in Italian and German, don't know about other languages.
The book is printed on photographic paper, the quality is great and the finishing too, the paper is very thick. Thanks to the color profile downloadable from the web site, the photo are exactely as I intended, the intensity and definition are great, I printed only black and white photos, I think the color would be fine as well.
I was a bit worry about uploading jpg files, but the result is fine, no "steps" on large gray surfaces.
The thick "filled" cover I choosed is nice, on the site they discourage the choice of matt surface for the cover, but I'm really happy with the feeling.
The uploading process is not so easy, from the web site or with the free Saal software, it needs improving, several times i had errors. I wrote asking assistance, and the reply to my mail arrived after the book itself, not usefull indeed.

Nadeshiko, the subtle allure of Japanese women.

Portraits and sensual details of Japanese women I had the pleasure of taking photograph of, is not erotic photography, but is about sensuality and elegance.
The text is compose by quotation from Japanese authors I love, like Kawabata, Tanizaki, Kenko,Shonagon,Setouchi, Yasushi.

This book is a limited edition photo book, if you are interested, please contact me for more details.

Sokō Yamaga

I found this interesting site in the city of AizuWakamatsu a headstone in rememberance of samurai Sokō Yamaga, standing in the place of his birth site. Photos taken with 85 mm. lens f 1,4, it was a very hot, sunny day 1st September 2016.

Chabana is a flower compositio for the tea ceremony, much simpler and clean than ikebana, made with just on type of flower or even just one flower. Sunlight from a window, 105mm. lens at f 2.8.

I like my wife's new haircut, is not the first time she cut hair short, but was long time since the last time had the neck nicely exposed. Nikon 105 mm. macro lens at f 3.3, maximum aperture on close-up.

Two instagram pictures of the Suwa Jinja matsuri. I love high quality photo and I use professional equipment to achieve great results, but somethimes a smartphone photo is nice. To get this result, anyway, I had to invest in some hardware, a tele lens for smartphone, not the very expensive Zeiss, an affordable one, of course the quality is bad, but I like the bokeh effect.

Tsubouchi Saburou is a monuaeshi, a painter of mon, the Japanese family emblem, he paint them on silk or cotton to be dyed to make kimono or accessory. The mon have to placed on both shoulder or in the middle of the back, just under the collar. A kimono with crest is very precious, it means had made expressely for a family, from the fabric decoration, dyng and tailoring. Ready made kimono don't have mon. Photographed in Kyoto in Summer 2016, with 105mm. f 2.8 lens in natural light from a window and a table lamp on the desk.
